Day of Procedure Expectations

MCAA has provided an overview for patients to learn what to expect on the day of their procedure, as well as guidelines to follow in preparation.

Each of the facilities where MCAA provides Anesthesia services will have a designated phone number for patients to call the day before their surgery to confirm their arrival time which will be provided by the surgeon.

On the day of the. procedure, patients will begin in the Pre Operation Short Stay (POSS) and/or Preadmission Testing upon arrival. The Pre Op nurses will get patients changed into their gowns and ensure personal belongings are secured. They will also place IVs and give any premedications that may be needed.

The Anesthesiologist taking care of you for the day will then come to speak with you before surgery.  They will discuss the available and appropriate options for your anesthetic.  At MCAA our team is highly proficient with all types of anesthesia.  Below are links to each type of Anesthesia for your own research.

Once your anesthetic plan is established and all of your questions have been answered, you will head back to the operating rooms for your procedure!

After surgery, the patient will head to the recovery room for a short stay. Then they will go either to inpatient or will be discharged home, based on their surgeon’s designation.

For additional questions regarding what to expect on the day of your procedure, please contact the location your procedure will take place or the contact number provided by your surgeon.
