Types of Anesthesia MCAA Administers
- General anesthesia
- MAC (Monitored Anesthesia Care) – levels of sedation vary depending on procedure
- Regional anesthesia
- Epidural (primarily for laboring patients)
- Spinal (for c-sections, several lower body procedures)
- Nerve blocks (to supplement general anesthesia: many areas/types)
- Shoulders (interscalene, supraclavicular)
- Knees (adductor canal, femoral, popliteal)
- Abdominal (TAP = Transabdominal)

Shadowing Info & Requirements
- Must be in 3rd or 4th year of college undergraduate program
- MCAA allows up to 10 total hours of shadowing
- Shadowers must be approved by both Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital and MCAA
